Reasons Why Your Business Needs A Website
Posted - 08 June 2011 by Jake Jones
If you prefer images to words, check out our vlog post on the topic. If you like words, read on below!
1) To compete in the online marketplace and sell!
People are buying all sorts of products and services online nowadays – why can’t yours be one of them? The online shopping sector continues to grow. In part due to the fact that people can be much more price aware and conduct product research from the comfort of their own computer.
2) To channel potential customers and existing customers towards
If you meet somebody at a networking event or at an exhibition etc, you are likely to give them a business card. On this you can display your website URL. Alternatively, you can hand out brochures. But which is more costly? Pointing people to a website or printing brochure after brochure?
If people are interested in your goods or services, they can simply visit your website and view more details, or even make a direct order in the case of e-commerce sites.
The same goes for any other form of advertising which you may be doing, posters, billboards, print, radio or even TV etc.
Performics (www.performics.com) have identified that “More than three-quarters of respondents search to learn more about a product or service after seeing an ad elsewhere.” (Search Engine Results Page (SERP) Insights Study, 2010).
So what does this mean?
If you are out there creating some sort of brand awareness, the chances are, somebody, somewhere, will be looking for you online. And if you aren’t there, where will they go? To a competitor.
3) To help you to recruit more easily
If you have a website, it is the perfect place to advertise your job vacancies. Before paying the fees of a recruitment agent, why not advertise on your own website, for free? Increasing numbers of people are searching for jobs online. A website, along with a strong social media presence can cut your recruitment fees and get your positions filled quickly and effectively.
4) To help your existing customers
Depending on what your product or service is you may need to provide your customers with information after they’ve made the purchase. This could be anything from a list of FAQs, specific product manuals, food recipes, warranty information etc. If this material is easily downloadable from your website, then this will allow you to direct them to it and resolve their issues and queries easily.
5) To overcome geographic barriers and open yourselves up to new business
For a small local business, the Internet can help to serve customers from further afield. For instance a small local gift shop in a village high street will only really see a certain amount of trade from local residents and visitors. But if the shop were to start selling key product lines over the Internet, they can attract custom from people living outside of their geographic area. If successful, this will allow them to increase their revenues via an alternative income stream.
